Review: The Fate of the Tearling
The Fate of the Tearling by Erika Johansen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I really wanted to love this book. After the first and second installments in this series, I expected a greatly exciting and intriguing novel, but it did not deliver. I liked the book quite a bit, and there were certain scenes that I absolutely adored, but overall it was a little disappointing. I found The Fate of the Tearling to be both predictable and rushed. Something just felt different in this book. Characters changed, characters were left out, a lot of things went unexplained, and I didn't feel like this was the end to a series. I was left with questions at the end of the novel, which is not something I like to experience after the end of a series. I don't need everything to be tied up neatly in a bow, but I enjoy a bit of closure, a bit of an explanation. Although I am irritated by the final third of the book, the first two sections were very good. It started off strong, continued to be strong, stumbled and lost its footing, and fell to an abrupt halt. I would recommend reading this book if you have already read the first two books, and I would recommend reading this series if you have not yet, but be aware that this book may not fulfill the expectations for a final book.
