Review: The Rose & the Dagger
The Rose & the Dagger by Renee Ahdieh
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I absolutely loved this book. Apart from a few scenes that seemed a little rushed, which is why it got the four stars, I think I preferred this overall story to The Wrath and the Dawn. If there had been a little more detail put into the magical aspects of this novel, I would have easily given this book five stars.
This novel follows Shahrzad and Khalid after they are separated in The Wrath and the Dawn. Shahrzad has escaped to the desert and Khalid is trapped in his demolished city. In the desert begins some new romances and love triangles, which bothered me a little because I just wanted Khalid and Shahrzad to be happy together, but it was also fun to see Shahrzad really become her own, independent woman. There were quite a few twists and turns that I did not expect, but I lapped up each and every one. Part of me wishes that there was more to this series because the duology is not enough for me, but I do love what Ahdieh has done with two books and adding more might ruin the integrity of the story.
