Review: Gemina
Gemina by Amie Kaufman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
**Spoilers for Illuminae**
After reading Illuminae, the first novel of The Illuminae Files, I was eager to read the next book. Since I loved the audiobook for Illuminae, I also had to listen to the audiobook for Gemina. Once again, the audiobook added to my reading experience and made the story really come alive.
This story follows a new cast of characters, although some characters from Illuminae do appear. I was very excited to read how Kady and Ezra's story played out, but they did not really feature much in this story. However, I absolutely loved reading about Hanna and Nik. I loved it so much, in fact, that I finished the entire book in less than ten hours. I read the entire thing on a long car ride, headphones in so I could also listen to the audiobook. It really made the eleven hour journey feel very quick.
The premise of Gemina is actually both very similar and very different to the premise of Illuminae. Both books feature a team of young adults and teens trying to delay an enemy attack, some romance, and, of course, a sassy supercomputer. However, instead of focusing mostly on computer hacking as Illuminae did, Gemina is very action packed. There are killer worms, epic fight scenes, messy wormholes, gunshots, and corruption. I think that this was an amazing sequel to an awesome first novel. I can't wait for the third book because the cliff-hanger of this book was so good, but I also don't want this series to end!
